Fifty shades of autumn at Arboretum Oostereng

Join the guided walk in the Arboretum Oostereng, the hidden arboretum in the heart of Wageningen’s woods.

In this hot summer, the arboretum offers a welcome cool breeze. This is no manicured park, but a wilder arboretum full of winding paths past remarkable trees, shrubs and plants. There’s plenty to discover in autumn too: mushrooms ranging from russula to giant puffballs, fifty shades of autumn colour in the trees, and exciting animal tracks in the mud. Or simply enjoy the crunch of the leaves under your feet, or the rustling of the wind through the treetops.

Over a century ago, the famous landscape architect Leonard Springer designed this arboretum for the Oostereng estate. Since 2011, a group of volunteers has been working to restore it to its former glory. The large trees from that era can still be admired, but there are also new attractions: a barefoot path, a giant xylophone and many varieties of snowbell trees and silver firs.
