Wageningen and the liberation of the Netherlands are inextricably linked. In the run-up to 5 May 1945, the capitulation with the German occupiers was negotiated at Hotel De Wereld - a historic moment that can still be felt in the city.
Today, Wageningen is the place where we pause to remember war victims on 4 May and celebrate our freedom on 5 May. Coming to town on one of these days? Then make sure not to miss the impressive Liberation Parade before you go wild at the Liberation Festival. In Wageningen, the past and the future can be felt all year round, which is why we are also the City of Liberation.
